The existing two-storey return was at a scale not befitting such a large with cramped internal dimensions making the spaces unusable. Traditionally, Victorian returns consist of a series of functional and subservient spaces to the mainhouse. The design exploits this premise, in the creation of a series of generously proportioned multifunctional spaces, accommodating the contemporary needs not afforded by a typical Victorian House, spaces envisaged for working, playing, bathing and sleeping. The functional materiality of the proposal is selected in response to the existing condition of unpainted render at the rear terrace and the subordinate functional spaces contained therein. A holiday home with three bedrooms, a social bathroom, a living room, a dinning room, a small kitchen with a support washbasin, pantry, and even a small outdoor swimming pool.

This road leads to the northern higher part of the lot. The roof functions simultaneously as pavement support for the gardens: similar to the traditional threshing floors and patios in the northern regions of the country with hilly terrain.

The terrain’s instability together with modest economic resources gave rise to a house with triple function: the itself and its interior space; the organization of outdoor leveled patios corresponding to the roofs of various levels which permit the outdoor use of the garden; and finally, the creation of a pedestrian link between the paths of the upper and lower levels that border this lot. The exterior stairs that create a link between the patios mirror the stairs that have the same function of linking the designed compartments that are also developed through levels. In this way, the stairs correspond to the interior ceilings.

House “V” was designed in order to satisfy the needs of a family. The house is situated beneath Zagreb mountain Medvednica, on a relatively mild hill that stretches from south to east. The house is closed on the north side along the street and opens up into a large private garden thus creating a sense of intimacy for family life. The ground floor is intended for the common activities of the inhabitants, with a gradual staircase connecting the serene living area to private rooms on the first floor. Exits to the outdoor landscape are possible from the pool on the southern side, the porch area on the southeastern side, along the glass front of the living room and from the commercial part on northeast side. Pentimento House - Luxury Home

A garden and a client without fear. Built with a single piece of prefabricated concrete, which can be placed in four different ways (assembly) which solves structure, wall, furniture, ladders, even a garden facade that is the origin of the project. On the platform rises the prefabricated system. The pieces are inserted into steel rods anchored with epoxy glue to the platform. Inside, the same cracks help to support some wood pieces that become shelves, seating, tables and steps.

The house ignores possible finishes. The foundation slab melts with black pigment and hardener to become the finished floor final. The Flowerpots stays in its precast concrete finished as in its interior and exterior. On the top floor the lookout becomes the main space and robs its attention for any secondary element, allowing the passage of air and light, aligning the views of the distant mountains. Economy, simplicity and clarity. Working with the light, nature, temperate climate and available materials. Liberating austerity, allowing the enjoyment, the sensory and the connection with nature. Luxury Mountain Home - Rocky Mountain Dream Modern Home

Luxury mountain home designed by architect Matthew McMullen of Architectural Manoeuvres.

Stunning architectural elements are complemented by two-story Pilkington glass walls, projecting at an angle to maximize on the magnificent views. A gated pathway leads past the 1,518-sq.-ft. carriage house and to the main house, offering 9,716 sq. ft. with an oversized heated garage, radiant heating, double-sided fireplaces and wood floors throughout.

A glass staircase leads up to the home’s third storey, which houses a glass-encased office. Sagaponac House - Luxury Home Design

Sagaponac House, a weekend house designed by Stan Allen Architect, located in Eastern Long Island.

The single family house has been the privileged vehicle for formal, programmatic and technical experimentation in the 20th century. The Sagaponac House is a prototype weekend house designed for a wooded lot in Eastern Long Island. One of a number of houses commissioned for a new residential development, our project is characterized by its compact footprint, and open interior spaces. The active roofline and wood cladding recall vernacular traditions, while the open floor plan and interlocking of solid and void acknowledge contemporary, informal lifestyles. Filtered, ambient light that changes with the seasons and the time of day fills the house from the roof lights and window walls.

Organic Wooden House

Organic Wooden House designed by Seattle’s Pb Elemental Architect.

Seattle’s Pb Elemental Architecture is putting an organic notch on the city’s concrete skyline. The Dang Residence is a two-storey private wooden house of 3,600 sq. ft., clad in naturally beautiful cedar. Interiors are divided into a series of modern loft-style living spaces, including three bedrooms, 3.5 baths, a media room and a study. Throughout the house, thoughtfully placed skylights and windows light up corners and crannies, and unique architectural details like art niches. CO2 Saver House Design

Co2 saver house designed by Peter Kuczia, located in Lake Laka, Poland.


Using untreated larch wood and black fibre cement panels to optimise solar energy gain, this lake house in Poland is a pretty good example of how to be sustainable and respectful with the environment.

The built form is designed to optimise the absorbance of solar energy. Approximately 80% of the building envelope is facing south direction. The single storey living space on the ground floor is externally clad with untreated larch boarding. The passive and active solar energy concepts and a high standard of thermal insulation are enhanced by a ventilation plant with thermal recovery system. The house consumes only about 1/10 of the average energy use of the existing single-family houses in Poland.

Aquino House - Luxury Home Design

Aquino House, the single-family residence is located on a steeped lot in front of federal government lands and aside a river.

The house is configured by orthogonal shapes and materials such as wood, stone and metal without artificial claddings. It stands with no protagonism against the rich and abundant surroundings.

A series of spatial and comfort requirements led to juxtaposed concepts. The family wished for large open areas that could somehow, blend with the nature around, bluring the lines between “inside” and “outside”. Another request was an isolated studio with room for thousands of books, compact discs and LP’s, which must maintain related with the exterior.

The main intention was for each interior space to face the river or the old amate tree, which is located towards east and has a 30 meter extended foliage that appears to envelop the house.

The small pool of stone and its red cedar surrounding pavement stands as the most intimate space concealed between the house and one of the perimeter retaining walls.

Japan Modern Architecture

Japan Modern Architecture designed by Nakayama Architects, located in Sapporo, Japan.

With the objective to make the most of every inch, the house architecture is a simple box, but that’s as far as simplicity goes in this elaborate design. From the weathered, rust-colored exterior to the artistic interiors, the home’s mature presence makes its way indoors through carefully contemplated finishes. Unassuming perforated walls cast a spectacular sun-lit pattern reminiscent of detailed delicate filigree work.

Exposed beams stretch from wall to wall, while a wonderful staircase makes its way from level to level. This ambitious architecture aimed to create true privacy for residents, and as a result the architects planned the house so as to maximize the area between private and public living spaces. The result is a floor plan that puts the two bedrooms and bathroom on one level, and the living room, dining room, kitchen and workroom on another.
