Solar Powered Design Center: Interior Design Ideas |
Posted: 18 Dec 2009 07:03 AM PST Built in a defunct arms manufacturing facility, this structure was designed by LIN. Christened Cité du Design, this design center is a unique facility that hopes to inspire many of its kind in the future. On a budget of about Rs.278 Crores (€41.5 million), the design center houses auditoriums, meeting rooms, exhibition space, a media library, and indoor gardens with an observation tower! Solar power combined with the supplemented heating systems; supply the energy that is required to run this facility efficiently. 14,000 equilateral triangles situated on the outside help control the light, temperature and the air flow based on the environmental conditions. Hidden amongst these, are some triangles that are in fact, photovoltaic cells that help generate power for the building. Cité du Design sure lives up to its name!
